Do Coffee Stains Come Out?

Did you not get enough sleep and drop your coffee this morning? Perhaps your child or dog knocked your coffee over.

I know this has happened to me before.

If you’ve spilled some coffee and are worrying about a stain this post will guide you on how to minimize and remove the stain.

The good news is that the stain should come out!

First things first: soak up as much coffee as possible

Quickly dab the stained area with a paper towel or wash cloth.

Attempt to soak up as much coffee as possible.

You can press the towel or whatever you are using firmly on the stain. The longer you press and hold the more of the coffee that was spilled will come up.

When the coffee stops coming off the stained item move to the second step.

Dilute the stain with water second

The second thing you should do is dilute the stain with water as much as possible. This will prevent any part of the stain that you cannot soak up to be minimal.

So if the stain is on your shirt, use a wet wash cloth and dab the stain with water at this point.

If you can remove your shirt or place the item that is stained in the wash at this point that is the best thing you can do right now to prevent it from staining.

The water in the washer will immediately wash out the coffee from your item leaving it almost as good as it was before your dog spilled your coffee.

If you’ve managed to soak up the coffee before the coloring has set in, then yes, the stain should wash out without any further effort on your part.

If the stain is fairly bad we suggest that you first clean the stain area using a stain remover.  This will prevent the stain sticking to the fibers in your clothes.

Use a stain remover prior to washing the item. Be sure to read the stain remover’s instructions as well.

They typically say to let the stain remover soak for a few minutes before moving to the next step.

If the stain has set in to carpet or your clothes, you may also have to use a stronger stain remover.

If you don’t want to purchase a stain remover, you can try a mixture of 50% mixture of either white vinegar or lemon juice with 50% water.

Use the mixture of either vinegar and water or lemon juice and water we suggested above.

If this doesn’t work, you can add laundry detergent to the solution and try that as well.

Once you apply the solution to the stain, let it sit for at least 15 or 20 minutes.
